19th-August-23rd-August

Last week students delved deeper into the unit of design with the help of the guiding questions given to them. They have chosen different ways to present their work in their groups.

Students are also doing a lot of hands-on for their unit on design. They are on the process of making a raft and below are some pictures of them collecting branches.

In Maths students worked in different centers:

- factors and multiples
- What numbers do you need to multiply in order to get to the following numbers;- 124, 84 (the expectation is to show multiplication of various numbers to get the above numbers.
- What numbers do you need to divide in order to get the following numbers:- 8, 6, 12

The approach of Maths is to pose a problem so that they are accustomed to finding solutions. At the same time, we tuned in to multiplication and division.
In the photographs below, students are solving Maths puzzles and problems.

In English
Students did an assessment of reading and writing.

Thereafter they were given a sentence starter and each of them had to continue the story. It was indeed very interesting to see them add on to each other's ideas.

Students were asked to write A-Z and come up with topics on each alphabet on which they would like to write. This was a thought-provoking activity as they had to think hard in order to come up with a topic on some alphabets.

12th August-16th August

Below are some highlights of the week gone by.

Grade5's did an assembly on the theme 'freedom'. It was led by Mr. Subhodeep (music teacher). The assembly was well presented and was very thought-provoking.

In Maths the concepts of basic operations of addition and subtraction have begun. Along with the concepts, students are also revising number systems (Indian and international).

In Unit of inquiry, the unit on design has begun through play. Students have begun to learn to knot as they will be using knots to design in future classes.

Beginning of a new journey......

The first week of school at the Aga Khan Academy is always eventful and unusual. Students get to to know new staff members as well as new students in their classes. They get to know the new systems as well as the new practices happening around them.

We (the staff) at the academy try to make the first week very exciting for the children and for this we do different activities and lots of play to engage them in learning.

We believe school should be a happy space for students to learn, spend time, interact with their peers, friends, and teachers. Hence we have engaged the students through different exciting activities.

Grade-5's have focussed in revisiting essential elements of PYP (concepts, skills, attitudes and learner profile attributes) through artefacts, drama, art, and play.

Below are some photographs of some glimpses of the first week:
